Foxconn's Indian component unit, approved for phone and IT-hardware enclosures
Strengths
Approved Jan 2026; expected to begin operations within ~6 months of Aug 2026
Brings Foxconn's global enclosure know-how
Risks
Unlisted in India
Taiwanese parent's priorities and US-China trade shifts drive decisions
Background
Subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision (Taiwan-listed)
Bharat FIH, another Foxconn unit, also got a ₹192 Cr approval in Mar 2026
Compiled from public reporting — not exchange-listed.
Where it fits
Aluminium is extruded into profiles, cut and CNC-machined into unibody phone and laptop housings, then anodised. Plastic and metal parts are moulded or stamped. Apple-grade enclosures take dozens of machining steps per part.
Why it matters
Enclosures are the biggest ECMS bet by money: Tata Electronics, Foxconn (Yuzhan) and Motherson have large approvals. ECMS pays 7% of extra sales falling to 3% (minimum investment ₹500 Cr). Aluminium extrusion for phone housings was fully imported before Hindalco's approval.
Where the value pool sits
High-precision machining is capital-heavy (thousands of CNC machines) but sticky once qualified by a brand; margins are better than assembly. Extrusion and alloy supply is a small slice but a strategic one.
Key drivers
iPhone and laptop assembly growth in India
ECMS 3-7% turnover incentive
Local aluminium and alloy supply (Hindalco)
Potential bottlenecks
Thousands of imported CNC machines per plant
Anodising and finishing know-how
Qualification by Apple/Samsung-class customers
