Dixon Technologies (DIXON)
India's largest EMS company (phones, TVs, appliances) using ECMS to move into camera modules, display modules and optical transceivers through JVs with Chinese partners
Price
₹11,000
snapshot 30 Oct 2026
Strengths
Several ECMS approvals: camera modules via Kunshan Q Tech India and optical transceivers via Dixon Electroconnect (Jan 2026), display modules via Dixon Display Technologies (Mar 2026, ₹1,100 Cr)
Display JV with China's HKC received Press Note 3 approval on 9 Mar 2026
Scale: FY26 revenue ~₹48,900 Cr gives it captive demand for its own modules
Risks
Depends on Chinese partners (HKC, Q Tech) for technology and on government approvals for each JV
Very thin assembly margins (net margin ~3%) until components scale
Note: ECMS: camera modules, display modules, optical transceivers

Where it fits
An SMT line prints solder paste onto a bare board, robots place hundreds of components per board, and a reflow oven melts the solder. Contract manufacturers (EMS) run these lines for phone, laptop, meter, car and defence brands, then box-build the finished product.
Why it matters
Assembly made India the world's No. 2 phone maker, but it adds only ~18-20% of value (GTRI estimate) because the board, modules and parts are imported. ECMS lets the same EMS companies capture the parts - Kaynes, Amber, Syrma and Dixon are among its largest applicants.
Where the value pool sits
Large but thin: phone assembly earns low-single-digit net margins (Dixon ~3.4% in FY26) while high-mix industrial EMS earns more (Kaynes ~10%). Moving into PCBs and modules lifts margins and makes customers stickier. Mobile phone production alone was ~₹6.27L Cr in FY26 (MeitY data via govt release, Aug 2026).
Key drivers
Phone and laptop PLI volumes and exports
Backward integration into ECMS-backed PCBs and modules
Industrial, auto, meter and defence electronics growth (higher margin than phones)
Potential bottlenecks
Imported boards and modules set the cost floor; local value addition is still ~18-20%
Working capital and customer concentration (a few phone brands dominate)
Skilled SMT engineers and yield know-how
Investor metrics to watch
Revenue mix: mobile vs industrial/auto/defence
EBITDA margin trend as component plants start up
Share of in-house PCBs/modules in the bill of materials
